Assessing your Risk Level

In order to determine the level of danger to an individual, a risk assessment testing is utilized. The proper precautions are chosen to reduce or abolish the risk in a work environment. Industrial machines can create hazards on the floor of the plant. Some of the hazards include mechanical processes that crush or shear as well as processes that involves pinching, bending and stamping of metal. The expectation of injury and the severity of injury must be taken into consideration in all work areas with any machines that may cause such hazards. Regulations and safety standards for machine protection and individual safety are provided by OSHA and ANSI in order to reduce the occurrence of injuries. The manufacturing process does not need to be hindered by the implementation of these safety devices. Protecting workers from injury is the Number one goal of the safety program; but it also includes preventing the disruption of overall factory production.

A comprehensive hazard analysis or safety survey is necessary for reducing the risks of injury and disruption of manufacturing productivity. Machines are constantly being inspected for impending problems and the existence of safety control systems on them. The next step is to implement a loss prevention program in order to comply with safety standards and maintain the plant effectiveness. Each  machine will have different protection levels based on their accompanying risk. In order to comply with government standards, the Best Safety Practice (BSP) is utilized. Continuous self-regulating, emergency isolation tools, lock-out/tag-out, and systems ranked fail to safe are common protections of this type of practice.
